5 Day Highlands, Skye & Jacobite Steam Train | Detail

Day 1 is a fabulous introduction to the Scottish landscape, exploring Scotland’s first National Park and the ‘bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond. Later we visit the loch-side village of Inveraray with a visit to its famous Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, and then tour through beautiful Glencoe steeped in history with dramatic scenery. Overnight Glencoe.
Day 2 takes us aboard the Jacobite steam train, now famous as the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express, which forms part of the West Highland Railway intended to help open up this remote part of the Scottish coast.  The train journey provides wonderful views across the Sound of Arisaig to the Small Isles of Eigg and Rhum. After lunch in the fishing port of Mallaig we take the ferry “Over the Sea to Skye”. Overnight Skye area.
Day 3 is a tour of the Isle of Skye, passing through Broadford and on to the main settlement on the Island; Portree, with its colourful harbour front and interesting shops. Heading west we visit Talisker Distillery for a taste and tour, the Old Man of Storr, and Kilt Rock Falls with other options a possibility. This will most definitely be a day to remember. Overnight Skye area.
Day 4 begins with a visit to iconic Eilean Donan Castle before travelling through Glen Shiel to the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness - keep a look out for Nessie! Later we travel east to spend the afternoon around the Victorian town of Pitlochry on the banks of the river Tummel, made popular by Queen Victoria who visited the area in 1842. Overnight Pitlochry.
Day 5 we tour south via Dunkeld with its ancient riverside Cathedral to Stirling Castle; the favoured residence of Scotland’s Kings and Queens, for a full tour to take in the castles' long and turbulent history. After lunch we head for Edinburgh and the Royal Mile with its charming medieval architecture for the opportunity to do some last minute speciality shopping. End in Edinburgh.
