9 Day Islands, Highlands and Braemar Games | Detail
Day 1 - We head west via Scotland’s first National Park and Loch Lomond, we take lunch at Inveraray and enjoy some time to explore the town, before travelling onto Oban to take a ferry to the rugged Isle of Mull. Overnight Mull
Day 2 - We tour the north of Mull with its mountain scenery, seascapes and abundant wildlife. We visit the town of Tobermory with its interesting shops and art galleries, walk the white sand beach at Calgary Bay, and visit the home of one of Scotland’s oldest Clans. Overnight Mull
Day 3 - Begins with a short ferry crossing to the small isle of Iona renowned for its tranquillity. A short and easy walk takes us to the Abbey which has been a vibrant centre of Christian worship since Columba arrived in AD 563. Later we travel back to the mainland to view the Glencoe landscape. Overnight Glencoe
Day 4 - We set off sharp from Glencoe and head towards Skye, crossing the inner sound by ferry late morning to make the journey through the Misty Isle. Later we head out to take in the Fairy Pools surrounded by the glorious Cuillin Mountains.Overnight nr Skye
Day 5 - Today we head for the "Capital of the Highlands", Inverness. On the way, we stop at the highland village of Fort Augustus and iconic Loch Ness with fabulous scenery and picturesque villages along the way. If desired, we can enjoy some free-time in the city. Overnight nr Inverness.
Day 6 - We visit Culloden Battlefield which will provide a lasting image of heroic Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite Army before we take the short drive to view the ancient Clava Cairns. Later, we visit historic 14th century Cawdor Castle with its stunning formal gardens. Overnight nr Inverness.
Day 7 - Explores the Cairngorms National Park with towering mountain ranges and large tracts of Caledonian Pine Forest. We tour south through Carrbridge, stopping at the Sheepdog trials for a fun demonstration before heading to the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry. Overnight Pitlochry
Day 8 - We explore the iconic glens and straths of the Cairngorms on our way to the biggest event in the Highland Games calendar - the Braemar Gathering. The village echoes to the sound of competing pipe bands and the varying colours of numerous tartans are in abundance. Overnight Pitlochry.
Day 9 - Allows for a relaxing pace as we visit the highland village of Dunkeld as we tour south over the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh where we visit Edinburgh Castle and then enjoy some time out in the Royal Mile, with its charming medieval architecture and the opportunity to do some last-minute speciality shopping.
