5 Day Highlands & Skye incl. Jacobite Steam Train

Get a taste of Scotland's stunning highland landscape, island scenery and ancient heritage over 5 exhilerating days. Begin your exploration through the heart of Scotland as we explore Scotland's first National Park, beautiful Loch Lomond and enchanting Glencoe. Enjoy an iconic journey on the Jacobite Steam Train (which featured in the Harry Potter film series) to the Isle of Skye. Day 1

Loch Lomond & Glencoe

Day 1 is a fabulous introduction to Scotland's westy coast landscape, exploring Scotland’s first National Park and the ‘bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond. Later we visit the loch-side village of Inveraray with a visit to its famous Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, and then tour through beautiful Glencoe steeped in history with dramatic scenery. Overnight Glencoe.

Day 2

Jacobite Steam Train

Day 2 takes us aboard the Jacobite steam train, now famous as the Harry Potter Hogwarts Express, which forms part of the West Highland Railway intended to help open up this remote part of the Scottish coast.  The train journey provides wonderful views across the Sound of Arisaig to the Small Isles of Eigg and Rhum. After lunch in Mallaig we take the ferry “Over the Sea to Skye”. Overnight Skye area.

Day 3

Isle of Skye

Day 3 is a tour of the Isle of Skye, passing through Broadford and on to the main settlement on the Island; Portree, with its colourful harbour front and interesting shops. Heading north we take in Uig, the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock Falls and travel through the rugged Trotternish Peninsula with other options a possibility. This will be a day to remember. Overnight Skye area.

Day 4

Eilean Donan Castle & Central Highlands

Day 4 begins with a visit to iconic Eilean Donan Castle before travelling through Glen Shiel to the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness - keep a look out for Nessie! Later, we travel east to the Central Highlands, if time permits, enjoy an afternoon walk at the Nature Reserve before we head for the Victorian town of Pitlochry on the banks of the river Tummel, made popular by Queen Victoria who visited the area in 1842. Overnight Pitlochry.

Day 5

Highland Perthshire & Stirling Castle

Day 5 we enjoy highland Perthshire and Dunkeld with its ancient riverside Cathedral before we tour south to Stirling Castle; the favoured residence of Scotland’s Kings and Queens, for a full tour to take in the castles' long and turbulent history. When we are ready we head for Edinburgh and the Royal Mile with its charming medieval architecture for the opportunity to do some last minute speciality shopping. End in Edinburgh.
