Get out there and experience the winter landscape of the Scottish Highlands. Enjoy spectacular Highland scenery, ancient heritage and iconic attractions over 3 days. Begin your exploration at Stirling Castle before venturing into Scotland's first National Park with ample time to visit locations such as Loch Lomond, Luss village and the enchanting landscape of Glencoe. Later, you’ll visit iconic Loch Ness, tour a world-class Whisky Distillery and explore the traditional towns of Pitlochry and Dunkeld in the heart of bonnie Scotland.
Today will start between 9:00am and 10:30am with a fabulous introduction to the Scottish landscape. Starting in Edinburgh we head for Stirling where we stop to visit Stirling Castle with important history and fine views over the city. Next, we tour west to explore the glens, lochs, mountains, and rivers of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. After lunch near Loch Lomond, we tour north over desolate Rannoch Moor and stop amongst the mountains of Glencoe to learn about the grim massacre of 1692. Overnight Fort William.
This morning we venture along Glen Nevis to view Britain’s highest mountain. Tucked away just behind the bustling town of Fort William is one of the most gorgeous and easily accessible glens in the highlands. Glen Nevis is a spectacular glaciated U-shaped valley bounded by many hills, one of them being Ben Nevis. After some sightseeing in the area, we head north through the Great Glen to the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness. After lunch, we travel the length of Loch Ness and end the day with a fun and informative tour and tasting at the Whisky Distillery. Overnight Inverness.
After breakfast, enjoy a morning visit to Culloden Battlefield where the last battle to be fought on British soil was held in 1746. From here we travel deep into the Cairngorms National Park where we will take in the splendid scenery and hopefully view some Scottish wildlife before heading for the Victorian tourist town of Pitlochry. Heading further south we pass through the historic village of Dunkeld with its ancient cathedral and beautiful riverside setting where, after exploring the historic buildings, you’ll have time to grab a hot drink for the return journey back to Edinburgh.
