This 7 day journey is an incredible introduction to Scotland and includes a trip over one of Scotland's highest roads. Explore and experience the many different aspects and the very best sights on offer; the fabulous scenery of our National Parks, enchanting Glencoe and the Isle of Skye, beautiful Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, the charming traditional communities of Applecross, Inveraray, Pitlochry and Fort Augustus, historic Culloden Battlefield and Eilean Donan Castle and the vibrant centres of Inverness, Stirling and Edinburgh.
Today is a fabulous introduction to the Scottish landscape, exploring the mountains, glens and lochs of Scotland’s first National Park and then the beautiful lochside village of Inveraray with its famous castle. After a tour of the Castle & Gardens, we tour north through the stunning mountain scenery of Glencoe. Overnight Glencoe
Day 2 takes us aboard the Jacobite steam train, now famous as the Harry Potter “Hogwarts Express”, which forms part of the West Highland Railway intended to help open up this remote part of the Scottish coast. Overnight nr Glencoe.
Day 3 this morning we take the ferry “Over the Sea to Skye”. Today is a tour of the Isle of Skye, passing through Broadford and the Cuillin Mountains to the main settlement on the Island, Portree, with colourful houses and traditional harbour. Later, we head north to admire the scenery and views at the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock Falls. Overnight nr Skye
Today begins with a scenic trip over the “Bealach Na Ba” mountain pass to the remote Applecross Peninsula. This is a beautiful and tranquil place on the rugged coast of Wester Ross with stunning Highland scenery. The area is well known for its spectacular mountain scenery, especially the Torridon Hills. Later on we enjoy a light walk out to watch leaping salmon on the river. Overnight nr Inverness
Enjoy some free time in the beautiful city of Inverness this morning before we head off along the shores of Loch Ness. The journey south offers fabulous scenery and picturesque villages along the way, we stop at Fort Augustus village to take in the atmosphere and admire the Caledonian Canal before touring north up Loch Ness. End the day with a fun and informative guided tour at the Whisky Distillery. Overnight nr Inverness.
After breakfast we visit Culloden Battlefield which will provide a lasting image of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the brave souls who lined up to face the soldiers of the British Government. After a guided tour of the battlefield, explore the Cairngorms National Park with heather-clad hills, vast swathes of Caledonian Scots Pines and abundant wildlife. Visit Carrbridge village and enjoy some free time in the Victorian tourist town of Pitlochry. Overnight Pitlochry
Explore the historic highland village of Dunkeld before we travel south to Stirling for a tour of Stirling Castle to take in the castle's long and turbulent history. Later, enjoy some free time in Edinburgh with its charming medieval architecture and the opportunity to do some speciality shopping.
