3 Day Highland Explorer

Leave the cities behind with a 3-day circular route through the Scottish Highlands. The moody, romantic Scottish Highlands start at Loch Lomond on the West Highland fault. Mountains, lochs, and heather give way to rugged shores and crumbling castles as we tour west. At the heart of this region lies the Cairngorms National Park offering spectacular scenery, fabulous wildlife, and ancient heritage.

Day 1

Loch Lomond & Glencoe

Today is a fabulous introduction to the Scottish landscape as we head North, spending time exploring the mountains, glens, lochs and rivers of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.  We take in the charming village of Luss, admire the view when touring over the Rest and Be Thankful and explore the seaside town of Inveraray, where we will have lunch. Later we travel over desolate Rannoch Moor before arriving at Glencoe to learn about the grim massacre of 1692. Overnight near Glencoe.

Day 2

The Great Glen

After breakfast take in the wonderful Highland town of Fort William to view Britain’s highest mountain, then through the Great Glen to the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness.  After a relaxing lunch stop and a chance to enjoy the atmosphere we now head further north to Inverness. Now keep your eyes peeled for the legend of Nessie as we travel the 23 miles along Loch Ness eventually arriving at the ‘Capital of the Highlands’. Overnight Inverness.

Day 3

Celtic Heartlands

Today boasts a morning visit to Culloden Battlefield, where the last battle to be fought on British soil was held in 1746. From here we travel into the Cairngorms National Park, where we will take in the atmosphere and hopefully view some Scottish wildlife before heading for the Victorian tourist town of Pitlochry. Heading further south, we pass through the historic village of Dunkeld with its ancient cathedral and beautiful riverside walks before finishing back in Edinburgh.
