This morning we visit Linlithgow Palace, a principal residence of the Stewart and Stuart monarchs of Scotland. Next, visit Stirling Castle the favoured residence of Scotland’s Kings and Queens for a full tour to take in the castles' long and turbulent history. We visit nearby Doune Castle built in the 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, before touring north through a fabulous landscape before arriving at the dramatic scenery of Glencoe that is steeped in history. This morning we tour west on the ‘Road to the Isles’, providing wonderful views to the Small Isles of Eigg and Rhum. We stop at Glenfinnan to view the monument in honour of the Highlanders who gave their lives to Prince Charles Edward Stewart’s Jacobite cause in 1745. After lunch in the fishing port of Mallaig we take the ferry “Over the Sea to Skye” and visit Skye’s Uisge Lusach Gin Distillery that produces small batch signature Highland dry gin. Today begins with a leisurely visit to iconic Eilean Donan Castle before we travel through spectacular Glen Shiel to the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness - keep a look out for Nessie! Later we travel east to spend the afternoon in the Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve, where we can have a short walk to enjoy its unique combination of woodland and open moorland. After breakfast, enjoy a free morning to relax in highland Perthshire and enjoy a stroll through Pitlochry high street to experience the array of interesting shops and cafes here. We head south for Falkland Palace in Fife, once a favoured retreat of the Royal Stewarts. Next, we visit Lochleven Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 - she was never to see Scotland again. Our journey south takes us to South Queensferry to view its famous rail bridge.
