This 7 day journey is an incredible introduction to Scotland with the addition of one of the great train journeys of the world. Explore and experience the many different aspects that Scotland has to offer; the fabulous scenery of our National Parks and enchanting Glencoe, beautiful Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, the charming traditional communities of Inveraray, Pitlochry and Fort Augustus, historic Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and Eilean Donan Castle and the vibrant centres of Inverness, Stirling and Edinburgh.
Day 1 is a fabulous introduction to the Scottish landscape, exploring the mountains, glens and lochs of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and beautiful lochside village of Inveraray with its famous castle. The journey north takes us through the stunning scenery of Glencoe. Overnight Glencoe
DDay 2 takes us aboard the Jacobite steam train, now famous as the Harry Potter “Hogwarts Express”, which forms part of the West Highland Railway intended to help open up this remote part of the Scottish coast. After a lovely lunch in Mallaig we take the ferry “Over the Sea to Skye”. Overnight nr Skye
Day 3 is a tour of the Isle of Skye, passing through Broadford and on to the main settlement on the Island; Portree. Heading north we take in Uig, the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock Falls with Dunvegan Castle and other options a possibility. Overnight nr Skye
Day 4 begins with a visit to Eilean Donan Castle before travelling through beautiful Glenshiel to the village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness. Before heading to Clava Cairns and the standing stones Later, we visit Culloden Battlefield which will provide a lasting image of heroic Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite Army. Overnight nr Inverness
Day 5 explores the Cairngorms National Park with towering mountain ranges and large tracts of Caledonian Pine Forest. Heading south we tour through Carrbridge before stopping to visit beautiful Blair Castle. Later we take in the popular Victorian tourist town of Pitlochry. Overnight Pitlochry
Day 6 allows time to enjoy highland Perthshire before we journey south via Dunkeld to explore Stirling Castle. An enjoyable visit to this royal court will reveal the castle's long and turbulent history with iconic figures such as Mary Queen of Scots, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Overnight Stirling
Day 7 we view the famous Forth Rail Bridge and then visit Rosslyn Chapel made famous by Dan Brown's book ‘The Da Vinci Code’. Later we visit Edinburgh Castle and enjoy a walk down the Royal Mile with its charming medieval architecture and the opportunity to do some speciality shopping.
